Red Ribbon Week

The Red Ribbon Coalition stemmed from the observance of Red Ribbon Week started in 1985 after DEA Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena was kidnapped, tortured and murdered by drug traffickers in Mexico. Soon after Kiki's death, people everywhere started wearing Red Ribbons to symbolize their commitment to help reduce the demand for drugs in their communities. This act took on a national significance and grew into the Red Ribbon Campaign. This year marks the 23rd anniversary of Red Ribbon.

Today, Red Ribbon Week is celebrated annually at the end of October in cities throughout the nation. The Red Ribbon Coalition is thrilled to provide a compelling resource tailored for this specific week and also for use through out the school year. During Red Ribbon, we remember Kiki, the man who wanted to make a difference and whose legacy still lives on.
