Distance Learning Playlist #2

This is our second playlist designed specifically for at-home use! It can be used for distance learning, and students and parents can easily access it from home. These resources are recommended for middle and high school students, and there are opportunities for reflection, discussion, and activities that are paired with each Storyteller video. Feel free to work on this playlist independently, or try adding virtual discussions to the mix and get creative with the suggested activities!

Some suggested questions to ask after you watch the video with your son or daughter:

Question #1:

David describes the feeling of hitting a home run as being on cloud nine. What gives you that feeling?

Question #2:

He also says that baseball is an escape for him. Why do you think having a healthy escape is important? Do you have one? If so, what is it?

Question #3:

David says that he knew he had to be a role model for his brothers. Are there people in your life who look up to you as a role model? Who are they? How does it affect what you say and do?

Question #4:

Choices and decisions have consequences. What is a choice you’ve made that had a consequence you learned from? What did you learn?

Question #5:

David says that you shouldn’t change your values or beliefs to be liked. Have you ever compromised your values in order to maintain a friendship or to portray a particular image?

Question #6:

What does David mean when he talks about not being a chameleon? Have you ever felt like a chameleon in social settings? If so, describe the situation and what it felt like.

Question #4:

Mike mentions that he would make excuses when someone would ask him to do drugs. What are some responses you could use if someone were to offer drugs to you?

Question #2:

What is a goal you have that you would like to complete by the time you are 18? If you don’t have one, can you think of one?

Question #3:

What have you done to work toward your goal? What can you do to work toward it, to help you stay focused?

Question #4:

Writing down your goals helps you to use them as a guidepost for your actions. Where can you keep your goals written where you can remind yourself of them?

Question #5:

Queen talks about masking pain with drugs. What do you think this means? Do you ever mask your pain? How? What are other ways to handle pain?

Question #6:

Queen suggests that success is “a direct reflection of who you surround yourself with.” Who do you surround yourself with? Do they reflect your success? How?

Question #7:

She adds, “Put your blinders on to those negative people and don’t allow them into your circle.” Do you have to use blinders? Why or why not?

Question #4:

Jason’s parents and friends supported his goals. Who supports you?

Question #5:

Jason’s friend died and it changed him. Think about a time you have lost someone (to death, a change in friendships, a move, or some other way). How did it change you?

Jason notes that everyone makes mistakes, but it's how you decide to move forward which is going to mold your character. Describe a time you made a mistake and how you dealt with it. How did it mold your character?
